The Iran’s national jewelry treasury is one of the most renowned depositories of historical jewelries in the world which has been collected during centuries. According to some scholars, the collection of these jewelries, date back to Safavid dynasty. It is a good representative of complicated, heroic and adventurous history of the Iranian people.
Apparently, it was the Safavid monarchs who first started collecting these gems and stones. However, some other claim that the antiquity of jewelries date back to previous monarchs. Overall, it is estimated that the collection of these gems took about two centuries (1502 to 1735 AD).
This collection has been changed through the history. It is said that after the Nadir (a great Iranian king) assassination, Koh-i-Noor diamond (the mountain of light) which was a pure piece of diamond was taken out country and was never back. Moreover, in the Qajar dynasty some of the items in the collection were used on the crown. Afterwards some items were added to the collection. In 1937 some items were moved to the Iranian National Bank to protect the gems and the whole collection.
The present collection was made in 1955 AD, before the Islamic revolution and from that time onwards, no significant changes were made. It is now a great source for studying Iranian history during the centuries.
