Katale Khor Cave, the second largest cave in the world after Son doong cave in Vietnam, is one of the natural attractions at 155Km south of Zanjan province, Iran. There are some mountains in the south of Iran called “Katale” and “Khor” means “the sun" that's why they call it Katale Khor, which implies that the sun rises behind the mountain.
This cave is about 120 million years old, and is divided into three parts: cultural, recreational activities and sports. The first 2km of the cave is cultural and recreational parts, and the last 4km is sport section, which due to difficulty of its way not everybody are allowed to enter. It needs beforehand notice and special equipment. (If you’d like to go please inform us in advance).
The main entrance of the cave is natural, but the exit door is artificial and there are some ceremonies held there from time to time.
This cave has 7 floors, but only 4 has been discovered yet.
